User unable to login to their Mac after changing UMICH password

Can't login to MiWorkspace Mac after UMICH password reset

Issue

User tries to login to their MiWorkspace Mac computer after resetting their UMICH password, but the computer won't accept the new password.

Environment

MiWorkspace Macintosh encrypted systems (FileVault, IronIzzy).

Procedure

  1. Connect the computer to ethernet.

  2. Login to the computer with the old password, which it should accept.

  3. Let the boot process continue until it prompts for a login and password again.

  4. Enter the login and new password.

  5. Boot process should continue normally after this.

If the computer finishes booting without prompting for the second login

  1. Check to make sure the ethernet connection is providing an IP address.
  2. Click on the Apple menu and select "Log Out".
  3. At the login screen, see if the 'network accounts unavailable' message goes away.  If so, login with the new password.

Additional Notes

The reason they need to login to their MWS Mac with the old password initially, is because the encrypted disk still has the old password.  Once the disk unlocks and the boot continues, it finds that the old password no longer works with Active Directory, and prompts for the second login.  When the new password is entered and accepted, the disk password is changed to match the new password.
