App Store Entitlements

App Store Entitlements

The App Store (also known as the Mac App Store) is a software distribution platform for macOS applications that is maintained directly by Apple Inc.

Some macOS Applications are distributed exclusively through the App Store, and all require an AppleID to download and install the application.

To avoid AppleID credentials, and streamline the App Store distribution process, Managed Software Center will offer certain titles as an “App Store entitlement.

When one of these titles is selected, Managed Software Center will complete a very fast install, which will request the application directly from the Mac App Store.

This entitlement process will appear fast in Managed Software Center, but the requested application may not appear in the macOS Application folder for several minutes. (e.g. Xcode can take upwards of 30min.)

Managed Software Center installs that use the App Store entitlement process:

  • Bear – Markdown Notes

  • Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

  • Blackmagic RAW Player

  • GeoGebra Geometry
