Enable Remote Desktop Power Plan and BIOS Features

This is a new configuration that we’ve added to respond to the increased need for certain machines to be highly-available and accessible from the network via remote desktop. By adding a machine to this configuration group, you will be enabling the following:

  • A Windows power plan that allows the machine to function at peak performance levels and prevents it from going to sleep.

  • A scheduled BIOS power-on time each weekday around 6:30 AM for select desktop models (laptops not supported)

  • Enabling “wake on LAN” feature both in the BIOS and in Windows for select desktop models (laptops not supported)

  2. Click “Configuration Selections”

  3. Locate “Enable Remote Desktop Power Plan - Always On”, select “Required”, and click “Update”

  4. On the specified machine, perform a restart while connected to a campus network or the Cisco AnyConnect Management Tunnel (Note that if you cannot get to the machine physically, MiWorkspace Windows Engineering may be able to restart it via Configuration Manager. Simply contact us in the #sup-mws-windows channel in Slack with the computer name.)

  5. This machine should now have the power plan and should get the other two features as pushes shortly.
