N-1 OS Version Support Change
Beginning January 1, 2023, Izzy will only provide packages and app updates for Macs running the current and one previous operating system version. This is a change from our previous “n-2” support policy.
What this means: Macs running macOS 11 or under will not be able to download packages from Managed Software Center, including updates to already-installed apps.
We already do not deliver packages to Mac OS X 10.14 or older.
Apple OS updates, in addition to OS upgraders, will continue to be delivered.
Unit IT can see which systems in their inventory are unable to upgrade to macOS 12 (or other versions of macOS) using the “Download CSV” button on their organization’s page in Izzy.
Why this change now: In October 2022, Apple formally announced that they do not patch every security issue in any version of macOS other than the most current. We recognize that moving to an “n” support model would be onerous, but we believe going to n-1 will not be a significant problem for most units.
By the numbers: 89% of managed Macs are already running macOS 13 or 12, 25 days after macOS 13 was released to them.
