Background Login Items

Starting with macOS Ventura, System Settings will now show a complete list of applications and other utilities that are allowed to run in the background. These items are not unique to macOS Ventura, but what has changed is the way they are being displayed to users.

Background items are used by developers to perform updates, sync data, open applications and other necessary services.

Users may see a notification when one of these items is updated

The complete list can be viewed in System Settings → General → Login Items.

Not all developers have labeled their background items in a logical manner. Below is a list of known background items deployed by Managed Software Center:
