macOS 12.3 Update removes Python 2.

Apple is planning to remove Python 2 in the next update of Monterey 12.3.

Below are a list of apps that might prompt you to let you know that python2 was called:

  • Docker.app

  • Sourcetree.app

  • Visual Studio Code.app

 

Known Python Issues:

  • “Visual Studio Code” command-line launcher - use “View > Command Palette > type in ‘install code’ and choose the Shell Command: install 'code' command and follow the prompts

 

Applications that fail to install properly or completely due to calls to Python2:

  • Redcine (version 55 and earlier) – (Resolved in 55.1 released in the April 21 updates)

  • FileOpen plug-in – will not install at all – waiting for vendor update

  • Adobe Acrobat DC (resolved in the March 10th software update of Acrobat 22)

  • Smart Education Software – (resolved in the March 4th software updates)

  • Spartan – (resolved in the April 14th software update)
