Applications that do not work with macOS Monterey

The following list of applications either have issues launching on macOS 12.0 (Monterey), or still will not run on neither macOS 10.15 (Catalina) nor macOS 11 (Big Sur). Please note that older versions of applications were not tested here – only the most current versions available in Managed Software Center were checked for the ability to launch successfully.

This list is current as of 11-8-2021 and is a work in progress.  This list will be updated as newer versions of these applications come out.

IF THESE APPLICATIONS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU:   Please reach out to the vendors and ask what their timeline for Monterey support is.

For Apple Silicon (“M1”, “M1 Pro”, “M1 Max”) systems, we have additional caveats beyond this list here

Applications that currently do not install successfully on Monterey (macOS 12):

  • All current versions of apps install properly

  • the “Admin Screensaver Unlock” currently does not install on Monterey

    • We have a process that appears to work but Apple seems to have locked the files we need to change in a way that is extremely cumbersome. It’s possible this won’t be something we can continue to support in future versions of macOS due to Apple’s security changes.

Applications that currently do not launch successfully or have issues on Monterey (macOS 12):

Applications that we expect may support Monterey in the future:

Vendor has confirmed development but no ETA for release (all are still 32-bit and do not work on macOS 10.15 or macOS 11 either):

  • KaleidaGraph – vendor keeps promising a 64-bit version, but it’s been over a year– retired from izzy with the retirement of support for 10.14, but we will track this to see if it comes back from the dead.

  • MathType 8  – the vendor has a status page here: https://lp.wiris.com/catalina/ This page has a beta plug-in that can be downloaded from the Microsoft App Store (which seems functional)

No ETA/Other:

Applications that also do not work in macOS Big Sur or macOS Catalina:

Any 32-bit applications that we currently support for Mojave (10.14) installs only. If you have any of those applications, please determine if you need them before upgrading your OS as they will not work.
