Managed Software Center will use macOS Software Updates

macOS 10.15 and Higher: Managed Software Center Update

For macOS 10.15 and higher, the Managed Software Center (MSC) will no longer install certain macOS updates directly. Instead, users will be directed to the Software Update preference pane in System Settings for specific updates.

Key Changes:

  1. Restart-Required Updates:

    • Software updates that necessitate a system restart will now be handled through the Software Update preference pane.

    • Updates not requiring a restart will continue to be installed by Managed Software Center.

    • If there is a mix of updates both requiring and not requiring a restart, Managed Software Center will defer all to Software Update.

  2. Hiding macOS Upgrade Notifications:

    • Apple allows hiding the macOS upgrade (e.g., upgrading from 14 to 15) in the Software Update preference pane for up to 90 days from the release date.

    • Future macOS upgrades will be managed through Software Update.
