This page will be refreshed with issues related to the beta versions of Monterey for those early testers. Monterey betas are not officially supported and if you install them, please be prepared to reload your computer back to Big Sur if things break.

Monterey Beta issues of note: 7-16-2021

...

If you are building a computer from scratch with the Public Beta, you may get notification prompts to open “DEPNotify” (please do this) or that Python needs to be updated when Managed Software Center is “triggered” (approve that, please). We are working on those issues and they may be resolved with later betas.

...

IMPORTANT NOTE: Clean installs with Monterey Beta 3 – do not work.

...

Application compatibility testing for Monterey has begun and information on what applications currently do not work can be found here. If you run into additional problems with specific applications, please let us know.

...

Crowdstrike is currently not compatible with Monterey (so it will neither install on a reload nor will it update if you upgrade your OS to the Public Beta version) Please be aware of that.

...

Microsoft Remote Desktop may crash when you enter your password to connect to Windows systems.

...

On clean installs of the Public Beta – the “umich login” screen may uninstall. This can be reinstalled through “Service Provider Support” if that happens.

...

Applications that do not work with macOS Monterey

The applications at the above link either have issues launching on macOS 12.0 (Monterey). Please note that older versions of applications were not tested here – only the most current versions of applications available in Managed Software Center were checked for the ability to launch successfully.

Cisco AnyConnect

As of the latest testing with AnyConnect, these issues were noticed under Big Sur and are still an issue with Monterey:

  • Remote network connections to Big Sur or Monterey systems with AnyConnect installed may become occasionally unreachable to SSH or Apple Remote Desktop/VNC connections (bug filed with Apple about this.)

Note that Apple Silicon (“M1”) Macs can only run macOS Big Sur or greater and “M1 Pro” and “M1 Max” Silicon Macs can only run Monterey, so any application that is unsupported on Big Sur or Monterey is also unsupported on Apple Silicon.
