Giving a User Access to MPrint
Authorization to print in the MPrint environment is handled by a combination of our PaperCut software and MCommunity. Unauthorized users will not be able to view printers on mprint.umich.edu/install or mprint.umich.edu/maps, and will not be able to print.
You can determine the level of access a user has by visiting their user page: https://mprint.umich.edu/user/<uniqname>. Follow the steps below, based on the result of the user's page.
"User not found!"
This result means the user does not exist in our PaperCut environment, and needs to be added. Follow the directions shown on that page, or click here to add the user to PaperCut. Once added, refresh the MPrint user page to see if any additional action needs to be taken.
"<uniqname> does not have access to printers in the MiWorkspace printing environment"
This message tells us that the user exists in PaperCut, but was never added to any MCommunity groups that would give them access to MPrint as a Service printers. Please add the user to whatever MCommunity group makes the most sense for the unit/department the user is a part of, and if the user needs to print that day, alert the Print team that the MCommunity group needs to be synced. If the user does not need to print immediately, the MCommunity affiliation will sync with PaperCut overnight, and the user will be able to install printers and print the next day. Note: we are working to expand the ability to sync groups with PaperCut to Neighborhood IT and Unit IT. Stay tuned!
If the user you are trying to grant access to is a local user account or an Active Directory shared account, please alert the Print team to add the account to PaperCut as an "internal user". If the account does not yet exist in the main UM Active Directory forest, please add it there first, as user accounts cannot print in our environment if they do not exist in Active Directory.
