Apple licensing changes for Final Cut Pro, Logic, Compressor, etc.

Starting in 2026, Apple licensing has changed for Final Cut Pro, Logic, Compressor, etc.

  • FCP, Logic, Compressor, Motion & Mainstage can now only be purchased through Apple’s Volume Purchase Program (VPP) using school.apple.com

  • Existing applications are locked at the current version, and can’t upgrade to new versions without the new license scheme.

  • VPP credits for use with Apple School Manager (ASM) must be purchased through CDW-G - contact Mac team for details.

  • New licenses need to be purchased in blocks of 20-licenses (or more, but at least 20 licenses per purchase) in order to recieve a 50% discount.

  • Mac team can see license usage in terms of raw count (“10 in use / 5 remaining”) in School Manager and can identify which devices have the license in Izzy.

  • Licenses are automatically reclaimed when the Mac is retired.

  • The new licenses can be partitioned off in Izzy so that existing devices are not auto-updated to the new version.

  • VPP licensed apps (Logic) can co-exist with personally purchased apps (Compressor).

Pricing as of April 2026:
