Pairing an iMac Pro & 2018 MacBook Pro with Izzy

The iMac Pro features a new technology called Secure Boot. This technology does not allow for a normal imaging process.

To accommodate Secure Boot, Izzy now supports out of the box pairing for systems purchased through the M-Marketsite. This process will not work for systems purchased through any other retailer.  You must buy iMac Pros and 2018 MacBook Pros through M-Marketsite and not Computer Showcase nor the Apple Store. 


  1. Contact the Mac Engineering team on Slack with your serial number(s) before unboxing or powering on the iMac Pro. The serial number can be found on the side of the box.   If you do not already have a Slack account, please visit https://slack.euc.it.umich.edu to get access!

  2. Unbox the iMac Pro, connect to a wired network port, and power the system on. NOTE: If the system has already completed the initial Setup Assistant, an Internet Recovery will need to be performed to return the system to an out of the box state

  3. After choosing your language at the first Welcome screen, you will be presented with a Remote Management message.

    Note

    (warning) If you do not see the remote management screen before you get to the Create Account step, do not continue with Setup Assistant. Contact the Mac Team on Slack for help.

  4. Click Continue to advance through the Setup Assistant.

  5. After the Setup Assistant completes, you will be presented with the familiar Izzy pairing screen.


  6. Confirm the package selection in Izzy to complete the build process.
