Mac Login Screen Options
There are two login screen options on MiWorkspace Mac devices: a UM-themed traditional local account Mac login screen, and a Microsoft 365 login screen.
Microsoft 365 Login
The Microsoft 365 login screen requires an umich email address [uniqname@umich.edu] to login. This is the recommended login option for first-time logins for customers who do not yet have an account on the Mac device. This login can be used anywhere that has an internet connection.
First time logins to a computer should use this option.
Campus Computing Sites Macs will use the M365 as the default login screen.
Systems with FileVault enabled will not see this login unless the current user logs out.
Microsoft 365 login screen:
Local Account Login
The traditional local account login option is available for Mac users who already have an account created on the Mac device.
This login option should be used with the UM Support accont.
The Local Account login will become the default login screen for MiWorkspace customers whose Mac is their primary or dedicated device (after their initial first time login).
Filevault enabled systems will see this login screen by default.

The “Switch Login Window” option on the bottom of the screen allows users to toggle between login options.
Users have the option to switch to the local account from the M365 login in locations where they do not have internet or want to use a support account.
To add another user account to a Mac, choose the Log Out option and switch to the 365 login UI
Known Issues:
Kerberos tickets at login take some time to initialize after a login.
The Microsoft 365 login window might load faster than the network. Click “Refresh” in the bottom right to try the network connection again, or use the local login screen.
Non-uniqname AD accounts can be used to login via the Microsoft 365 screen once the account has been sync’d to Azure/Entra with these steps here.
The non-uniqname account would also require adding “@umich.edu”
