General Concerns with Sonoma (macOS 14)

• Clicking on the desktop now makes the windows fly out of the way to reveal the desktop.

  • If you don’t like the new behavior, change it via System Settings → Desktop and Dock → Click wallpaper to show desktop items.

  • This feature is set to “always” upon installation/upgrade to Sonoma.

• If your background image was one of the previous OS default images, the background image may be changed to the new Aerial screensaver/background effect after upgrading.

• Video effects will be added to Zoom, WebEx, and FaceTime if you perform certain physical gestures like give a thumbs-up or make a peace sign. The effect may be unwarranted in certain video sessions, and you may want to disable them.   • The “Presenter Overlay” does not work in Zoom at this time, pending an update from Zoom

• There have been some reports of the clock being offset after upgrading to Sonoma (possibly only on intel macs). This is due to be fixed in 14.2, but the workaround for now is to run this terminal command and then reboot:

  • sudo rm /var/db/timed/com.apple.timed.plist

• Certain audio plugins are incompatible, including Exponential Audio (Nimbus and R4), iZotope (Neutron 3 and Neutron 3 Gate), Reverb Foundry (M7 Link), Sennheiser (AMBEO Orbit), Soundfield Limited (SurroundZone2)

  • This was also the case on Ventura; we will no longer report on this defect going forward.
