Systems in Otto can be edited by anyone who has the rights.  You should edit a system if you want to move it to another group, change its Otto Name, etc.

The edit page shows you all of the available properties of the system that you may edit.

  • Otto name: A friendly name that helps you keep track of your systems.  It is not the same as the hostname, active directory name or any other configuration.  Edit it as often as you'd like.
  • Serial number: The key identifier for the system.  It must be unique, and it must match the system's BIOS serial number.
  • Name: The prefix for the system name is set by the organization and it cannot be changed.  The rest of the name is fully editable.  MiWorkspace customers traditionally use the serial number.
  • Platform: Mac or Windows.
  • Group: Determines the configurations the system receives at prestage.  You can move the machine any time, but that won't necessarily enforce or push configurations to the system.  You will want to prestage it (and probably rebuild it) after moving it to a different group.
  • User: This data comes from ServiceNow for MiWorkspace customers.  Non-Miworkspace customers may not show an assigned user.  The assigned user is just for reference purposes.
  • Support team: For MiWorkspace customers only.  Used to assign work during Refresh.
  • Admins and RDPs:  Editing these will kick off work that will configure the machine itself to add the specified users to the administrators group or the Remote Desktop users group (and add the machine to a group that configures group policy to allow RDP connections).
  • Successor group: This is a helpful config that will allow you to flag a machine that needs to go to a different group when it's duplicated or Refreshed (Refresh is for MiWorkspace customers only).  When using the bulk Transfer Systems or Duplicate Systems functionality on a group, this successor group will help direct the machine into the proper group.
