Prestaging a system configures MiWorkspace's management systems to allow the system to be run through the task sequence (or for MiWorkspace systems can configure them for at-home/Intune builds). Prestaging a system that already exists in Active Directory does not delete the AD system object, but it may move it to a different Organizational Unit (OU) depending on the system's group's configuration. Prestaging will also modify the system's group memberships to align it with the system's Resultant Set of Packages/Configurations. Prestaging a system will clear its Package and Configuration Selections to re-align it with the group's configuration.
See QuickStart Find or Pair New System to Otto to find or pair a system.
Once you've located or paired your system, begin by clicking Prestage: Next.
The Prestage form will appear with any available options.
MiWorkspace Systems that support @Home builds provide a Build Type option in the Prestage form that lets you indicate that you are prestaging for a conventional Task Sequence (OSD) build, or for an MDM (mobile device management) build. Choose the appropriate option:
Note: The Prestage options will also let you choose if you want to clear the Admin and RDP Users on the machine. This option is checked by default and especially important when building a machine that will be changing owners (trickle-down, loaner, shared machine, etc.). If you are rebuilding an existing machine for the same customer, there is no need to clear the existing Admin and RDP Users.
Click Prestage.
- The Prestage takes anywhere from 20-30 seconds.
- You don't need to refresh the page to see progress.
- Otto will show an animated activity bar while the prestage runs. When it's complete, you'll see the Last Prestaged time updated with the current time.
During the task sequence, External Events are posted to the system record in Otto so that you can monitor the status. These can be viewed by clicking Events link under Actions.
If any Task Sequence events exist for a system, the system receives a badge indicating this. Hover the badge to see details.
