macOS 13 is still in preview beta release at this time; this document is a work in progress

Support Changes

Login Items UI controls

The new Login Items UI feature in Ventura Beta 1 is a significant blocker for deployment; we have opened tickets with Apple about this issue.

Application Management limitations

The new changes to application management - which prevents Munki from installing updates - is a significant blocker for deployment; we have opened tickets with Apple about this issue.

Applications

The following list of applications either have issues launching on macOS 13.0 (Ventura), or may not run on neither macOS 10.11 (Big Sur) nor macOS 12 (Monterey). Please note that older versions of applications were not tested here – only the most current versions available in Managed Software Center were checked for the ability to launch successfully.

This list is a work in progress (last updated 8-9-2022 as applications are being validated against new beta releases).  This list will be updated as newer versions of these applications come out.

IF THESE APPLICATIONS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU:  Please reach out to the vendors and ask what their timeline for Ventura support is.

Applications that currently do not install successfully on Ventura (macOS 13):

  • Ableton Live 11.1.5 (the install “FAILED” and, as such, the 40G of sound packs can’t be unpacked – don’t try it!)

  • Camtasia – ACE audio driver can’t be installed on 13

  • Parallels Desktop 17 does not license properly

Applications that currently do not launch successfully or have issues on Ventura (macOS 13) (note that a handful of applications not listed may need two launches to appear correctly):

  • Ableton Live – application indicates it is “Damaged” and can’t be launched (NOTE – the builder has been fixed and just waiting for the next version.)

  • Examplify (reports Damaged) (NOTE – the builder has been fixed and just waiting for the next version.)

  • M7Link Audio Plug-In – GarageBand complains this needs an update to be supported (this may be what is affecting Final Cut Pro, too…)

  • FinalCut (on beta 3) complains the following audio drivers “did not pass the Apple AU validation”: Nimbus, R4, Izotope (Nectar 3, Neutron 2 and 3) and Foundry M7 Link --- these cause GarageBand, FinalCut and Premiere Pro to hang on launch while scanning audio drivers…) OF NOTE: 12.4 FinalCut complains about Nimbus, R4 and M7 Link as well.

  • Lightwright 6 – crashes unexpectedly at quit

  • Spartan 20 – License Utility does not work

  • Xcode 13 does not run on Ventura – we are not (at this time) packaging the beta of Xcode 14 for deployment along with Ventura

  • Microsoft Office apps may crash at launch. If that happens, trash one of the Apps (like Excel) as that will force a redownload of Office in Managed Software Center and a reinstall may fix it. Don’t uninstall Office and reinstall it – that will not work.

  • Microsoft Excel may not select cells/rows correctly. This has been reported. Moving the spreadsheet around with the scroll bars may help, but you may have to quit and reopen the spreadsheet to get it to work properly – until it stops working again.

Applications that are not installing updates via Managed Software Center (not an authoritative list) – different apps fail with different betas (running list for beta 5) – it’s possible these updates may install if the apps are trashed before the updates are installed:

  • BlackMagic Desktop Video

  • Davinci Resolve Studio (same company as BlackMagic Desktop)

  • Resolume Arena (again)

  • JMP Pro 16.2 update (again) – may be fixed.

  • iLok License Manager

Things that may not work that have been mentioned by beta testers:

  • Punchouts are not opening in Marketsite in Safari (but work in Chrome/Firefox) – fixed in beta 5/Public Beta 3

  • No labels
