You have identified If you identify a MacOS device with two versions of Code42 Crashplan installed.  Here are some (legacy and current) installed, complete the following steps to remove the older version and get the newer Code42.app backing up your computer again.*This requires an Admin account version. Removal of the old version will allow the current version to begin backing up the device.

Izzy loaded computers can open the Service Provider Support app found in /Applications/Utilities/Service Provider Support.app and run the Crashplan uninstall task.

*Note that an Admin account is required to uninstall the older version.

  1. Navigate to

  2. Right-click Crashplan.app

Select “Show Package Contents”

Go into the Contents / Helpers folder

Run the uninstall script in the Helpers folder.

  1. , and then select Show Package Contents.

  2. Open the Contents folder, and then open the Helpers folder.

  3. Click Uninstall and enter your Admin password when prompted

Once that prompts a successful uninstall, Click ok.

Launch Code42.app

Sign in with your UMich email address

Server field: “central.crashplan.com”

  1. A prompt will display notifying you that the uninstall was successful. Click OK.

  2. Open Code42 from the Applications folder.

  3. Enter your full UMICH email address, and then click Continue.

  4. Enter clients.us2.crashplan.com in the Server Address field.

  5. A separate web browser opens asking you to sign in to U-M Microsoft 365 with your full UMICH email address and UMICH (Level-1) password. 

  6. Click Sign In, and then complete Duo two-factor authentication if prompted. Note that the process might take a few minutes to complete.
